KOREAN WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL 



  

 

On June 1, 2013 the dedication of the new Korean War Veterans Memorial  was held  in Conestee Park   840 W. Mauldin Road Greenville, SC. A crowd of more than 400 veterans and members of the community attended. The program featured the Upstate Senior concert band and the JROTC Patriot Brigade Honor guard and drill team of J.L. mann High school. The Patriot Guard riders of Greenville, SC stood in a flag line around the Memorial.  

 

 As of Dec 10, 226 bricks have been installed in the Honors walkway. There is room for many more.

Funds will continue to be received for future maintenance and flag replacement.

On July 25, 2015, The Foothills Chapter held its traditional friendship luncheon with members of the Korean community. The luncheon was held at noon at the Taylors Baptist church social hall.


  BUSY WEEK


Members of the Foothills Chapter of SC #301 were kept busy during Veterans week. On Wednesday, Memorial Day November 11, 2015, the Chapter celebrated a special program at their Memorial site in Conestee Park 840 W. Butler Rd. Greenville, SC. The program entitled “We Turn Toward Busan” was an international ceremony of Honor and Tribute to all the Korean War fallen, celebrated around the world by the 21 nations that sent armed forces and medical humanitarian aid to Korea and by all veterans of the Korean armed forces. The program was directed by the Foothills Chapter President Tom Comshaw with a large number of Chapter members, families and residents in attendence. On Thursday, November 12th the Chapter met at the Golden Corral for its regular 2nd Thursday monthly meeting. Discussions included the recent Upstate Honor Flight and the Ambassador Peace Medal given by the Republic of South Korea and presented by the SC National Gaurd on Saturday, October 31, in Columbia, SC. On Saturday November 14th several members of the Chapter met at the Upcountry History Museum in Greenville, SC bringing memorabelia and artifacts from the Korean War era. Some members participating in an open forum on service in different branches of the military. Also during Veterans week a number of the Chapter members were called on to speak in local school Veterans Day programs.


The KWVA and the Foothills Chapter of SC #301 welcomes all Korean Veterans, male and female, of all branches of the US Armed Forces, and the Republic of Korea's armed forces. If you have ever served in Korea at anytime from 1945 to the present (or outside of Korea between June 25, 1950 and January 31, 1955), you qualify and we want you to join us. This includes a lot of younger veterans who have been deployed to Korea since the armacist in 1953. You are Korean Service Veterans and are welcome to the KWVA and the Foothills Chapter of SC #301. We meet every month, except July, on the 2nd Thursday at the Golden Corral, 3240 N Pleasantburg Dr., Greenville, SC. Meeting starts at 12:30 pm. Come earlier to enjoy your lunch and good fellowship.
